Objectives: Youth who complete the lesson can

  • List strategies to determine vehicle safety.
  • Recognize the relationship between vehicle maintenance and safety.
  • Realize that some vehicle alterations limit warrantee benefits.
  • Understand the benefits and limitations of insurance. 

Activities

  • Vehicle Safety Ratings - What's it all about?
    Youth learn what to consider when purchasing a vehicle. The lesson challenges the youth to go beyond what color or style the car is and consider the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

  • Vehcile Health = Vehicle Safety
    In this activity, youth learn that vechile ownership means vehicle upkeep and maintenance. Parents and youth will work together to brainstorm ways they would maintain their vehicles to keep them running in top condition.
  • You want a facelift: Know the facts

    Youth learn that before making improvements and vehicle alterations, they should check with the state law and their insurance company to see if there are any laws concerning vehicle alterations or how those alterations may affect their insurance fee. In addition, youth will be challenged to learn how any alteration will influence the handling of their vehicle.
  • Parent Lessons                                                               Parents are instructed to complete at least one parent lesson prior to the next session.  These lessons allow parents to share personal experiences, learn safe driving skills with their youth, and conduct on-the-road practice sessions with their youth.
