Decision Tree

Use the steps below to begin an interactive Decision Tree that will help you determine if you need to seek a Human Subjects Committee review for your upcoming project. By working through the questions in the Decision Tree, you should be able to decide if you need to complete an application for a review, and if so, which committee, the Purdue University IRB or the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service Human Subjects Review Committee will address your effort.

Begin the Decision Tree at Step One. Work through each question until you reach your particular audience and method of collecting data. When you encounter the "Stop Sign" you will be advised if you need a review and if so, which committee to submit to.
